General & History
A historic early 20th century hunting lodge in the heart of Tuscany, midway between Florence and Siena, close to San Gimignano - the perfect starting point from which to explore the glories of Tuscany. The house once belonged to a famous aviator, daring hero of both world wars. Thereafter it became the peaceful refuge and grand library of a Northern Italian family, the subject of Giorgio Bassani’s novel and the subsequent film. The present owners bought the property some sixty years ago following in the footsteps of their illustrious predecessors, as a serene refuge from the noisome world of industry and motorways, a pocket of unspoiled nature, the perfect setting for a romantic, rustic idyll, while being well placed for forays to a clutch of glorious cities. It has been brought up to date with every comfort, and is situated in parkland of ancient trees. It has a private heated swimming pool, with hydro massage, surrounded with space to relax among spreading olives. This is a secret hideaway, a haven of tranquillity within a stones’ throw - or a brisk walk - on bars, restaurants and all the other necessities of a sociable life.
