Day trips can be made from the house to the East and West coasts and there are also five National Trust properties well worth a view within driving distance. The local area is renowned for its wildlife, there are three loughs on the estate where either Brown Trout, Pike, Perch Rudd or Bream can be caught and the estate woodland is host to many rare bird species and also red squirrels.

Maine Park offers a wide range of outdoor activities. In warm weather the lakes are idyllic for swimming and picnicking, there are numerous walks to be enjoyed on and off the estate, there are two equestrian centres or even cookery courses all of which are less than an hour away. Rally School Ireland very close by or there are four main golf courses located within driving distance, not including the one on the estate.
