General & History
The romantic hilltop Chateau Val de Creuse is set in the beautiful tranquil countryside of the Southern Loire Valley.
The Chateau Val de Creuse dates back some 900 years. The chateau is named after one of the oldest and distinguished noble families of the Poitou.
The main chateau building dates from the XIVth Century, while the new wing was born in the Renaissance (XVIth Century). Indeed in the front garden there stands a menhir, a Neolithic stone providing silent testimony that this has been a sacred site for over 10,000 years.
Once much larger, today the Chateau Val de Creuse is more intimate. The chateau has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, with additional sleeping space available if necessary. The chateau can sleep up to 12 guests.
Compelling reminders of the families and children that lived at the chateau long ago are remembered with numerous ancient graffiti etched into the stonework. The chateau keeps its mediaeval ambience; it is warm and welcoming whilst boasting all modern conveniences including under-floor central heating and high-speed internet access.
The private and large private solar-heated pool is set in attractive and fascinating gardens, which enjoy striking 360 degree views.
The local hamlet has only 5 houses (and just the 1 chateau!). It lies 4km from an ancient spa town famous for its healing waters since the Romans ruled. Although located only 80 minutes from Paris by train, this part of France has remained a well guarded secret.
The chateau is only a short drive from the great chateaux of the Loire Valley, the region holds diverse & numerous attractions. The scenic landscape is filled with beautiful villages, castles, abbeys, churches & monuments. Rich in prehistory as it is, it also boasts Futuroscope, the theme park near Poitiers devoted to the moving image that displays the best in cinematic technology and computer graphics.
On each booking the owner makes a generous donation to charity.
