Uzès is one of the most delightful Provençal towns, and has markets on Saturday and Wednesday morning and all the usual shops and a choice of good restaurants. The picturesque village of Dions, with its Espeluca natural abyss and medieval castle, is only five km away. There is a bamboo-growing farm of Prafrance in Anduze, and the amazing caves in Trabuc. The Museum of sweets - Misée du Bonbon – tells the story of candy and chocolate and many of your other favorite French sweets. For those who like a bit of history, there is the Museum of Provence, and the railway and motorbike museums. You are only a short drive from Nîmes, Avignon, Arles, Les Baux de Provence, all historically and architecturally noteworthy, and well worth a visit.
For those who love outdoor pursuits, at Collias there is canoeing and kayaking, on the river along the Gorges du Gardon, down to the Pont du Gard - the Roman aqueduct.
Rock climbers should find an opportunity to get on La Capelle and Masmolène, which has anchor points and bouldering, or climb on the cliffs at Collias and Russan. For golfers, nearby is a nine-hole course at Pont des Charrettes in Uzès. The Gardon River has natural swimming pools, fishing and canoeing. The surrounding countryside is perfect walking country, and great for mountain-biking, with many circular routes and hiking trails - GR 6 and GR 63. There is the Water Park, La Bouscarasse in Serviers, only 8 km away. There is also hot-air ballooning in Uzès, and horse riding in Collias and Russan.
