General & History
Château Margot is a classic medieval castle hidden away in the rolling hills of Gascony. Shaded by cypress, lime and chestnut trees and surrounded by six acres of parkland, it is the perfect location for a family holiday.
The chateau has been restored to elegant and luxurious comfort whilst retaining all the charms of its thirteenth-century origins. Gargoyles, spiral staircases, great fireplaces and suits of armour harken back to the days when the chateau was surrounded by moats, with the battles of the Hundred Years War being fought on its doorstep. That said, however, there is nothing ancient antiquated about the chateau interior itself, which has been brought gracefully from its medieval roots into the twenty-first-century. Every comfort is provided to suit the modern family, from warm wooden parquet flooring to state-of-the-art kitchen facilities. Gorgeous rugs and tapestries soften the stone, with sunlight streaming in from the great Gothic-style vaults of the windows.
The chateau is built of white Gascon stone, hewn from the local quarries in the thirteenth century, with traditional terra cotta rooftiles - cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
