General & History
The Château Melioule is spectacularly perched on a hilltop in the foothills of the French Alps. This dramatic chateau overlooks a well known local lake.
The château was built in the 12th century by the Knights Templar as a garrison to protect the surrounding lands against plundering Saracens. The chateau has since been owned by a succession of established Provençal families, and still stands guard over the green valley below. It is located near the famous Route Napoléon bordering the old Savoy province, an area that had witnessed dozens of brutal battles right up to King Louis XIV reign.
Château Melioule sits in the wonderful Provençal sunlight; the climate is comfortable so this is an excellent holiday destination all year round. The local area is full of history and not far from a river canyon thought to be the second largest gorge in the world. The clean air, pure water and springs of the region have made it popular amongst those looking for a natural healing process.
The Château Melioule enjoys 11 acres of land which is shared with a magnificent Roman style chapel and sculptures of local saints. Enjoy a large 14mx7m heated swimming pool and its own private beach on the Lake! The Chateau can host up to 16 adults and two children.
