General & History
Recently featured in a prominent design magazine, this enchanting manoir has been beautifully renovated to provide three luxury self-contained apartments, creating an exclusive holiday rental for up to fourteen guests. The manoir is located in the heart of Cotentin and Bessin Marshland Nature Park, and is surrounded by pinewoods, rivers and unspoilt countryside rich in wildlife.
Dating from the 1600s, this pretty pastoral retreat was originally built as a hospital for the troops of one of Louis XIV’s Field Marshall, and is hidden within glorious peaceful gardens, in the grounds of the main château. Having retired from Versailles, the Field Marshall returned to his Normandy estate, commissioning the Versailles architect to design the beautiful Italianate façade of the chapel, which flanks this manoir. Sadly, the interior was destroyed during the Liberation bombing of 1944, but the splendid façade remains intact, and the devoted family is raising funds to restore the interior to its former glory.
Guests staying at the manoir enjoy complete privacy, but can enjoy the hospitality of the main château, which has been the residence of the family for centuries. The sixteenth century farmhouse serves a delicious table d’hôte, breakfast is also prepared daily, and drinks are served in the drawing room. The rose-covered manoir is secluded from the main chateau by a line a mature trees, and surrounded by private gardens, which are a real pleasure to discover. Located on the Normandy peninsula, the manoir offers a very peaceful holiday rental in this historic location and glorious countryside.
