General & History
Beautifully restored to create luxury accommodation for fifteen guests in eight magnificent bedrooms, and surrounded by over 19 acres of gardens and parks in the pastoral Corentin landscape, fifteen minutes from the coast. This ancient château was built in the 1500s on the old Roman estate. Rich in history, it is a real joy to discover, with past occupants all leaving behind a whisper of their former presence.
The old Roman road can be traced within the grounds – look out for the feudal keep and follow the line of ancient Beech trees, the road is hidden near the old well and washhouse. Wander in the enchanting wood of Willow trees, by the river that borders the estate, and you may find traces of the pottery and of the 8th century village that have long since crumbled out of memory. Part of the original manor house can be found to the right of the château, the early 15th Century turret complete with arrow slits, though the rest was razed to the ground by the Guerre de Cent Ansby l’Angleterre. There are also quirky 19th century follies to discover within the gardens, including a child-size manor house, a Greek temple and an idyllic spring.
The warm Gulf stream has been exploited to create gardens of rare palms, pine trees and ginkoes. There is also a kitchen garden, well-tended from days of yore to provide delicious produce for the château table. There is also a fantastic outdoor pool and tennis courts.
