The nearby town has a great mini-supermarket and boulangerie, which also sells local newspaper which can tell you about local events on in the area. The village has a large boating lake, ancient abbey ruins and mini-golf. It also has a good restaurant and a bistro, which offer excellent food at reasonable prices. The village is located on the edge of the forest where filmmaker, Luc Besson, shot scenes for Joan of Arc using the abbey ruins as a backdrop. He fell in love with the area, and so purchased a chateau nearby, and other famous neighbours, including Louis Vuitton, have done the same. La Ferte Fresnel has a butcher, pharmacy, bank, and a boulangerie selling delicious bread, cakes and pastries. The bistro, Le Lac des Cygnes can be recommended for a drink or a bite to eat, opposite the lake in St Evroult. There is also a new restaurant here, Le Relais d’Abbaye, which does a particularly good value set lunch menu with wine for around €10. Also in Ferte Fresnel, is the locally renowned restaurant, La Paradis, which serves excellent meals at a good price. Or for a special occasion, nearby Notre Dame du Hamel’s restaurant, La Marigotiere, serves a fabulous à la carte menu by the river. The nearest Tourist Information Centre is in historic L'Aigle, where you will also find one of France’s largest markets every Tuesday morning. There are many local events throughout the year, such as fetes and food festivals, night markets and music. The French national stud at Haras du Pin is also nearby, with great architecture and the free horse processions, which take place each Thursday. For a trip to the seaside, head for the beaches at Deauville and Trouville, and Rouen and Paris are only an hour away.
