The nearby town is all the necessary shops, as well as many local daily markets, particularly recommended is Bricquebec on Monday between 9am to 12.30pm. For those who enjoy a swim in the sea and glorious sandy beaches, the beautiful sandy west coast beaches at Cartaret are a real treat and the gulfstream produces an idyllic microclimate. The surrounding countryside is a joy to explore on foot, and there is a labyrinth of beautiful ancient walkways, for which we have detailed maps.
Restaurants that deserve a mention include the village butchers' bar, which serves an informal four-course meal cooked over a fire, for around €10 including wine. Also the quayside bar in Cartaret, opposite the Channel Islands, does a delicious moules frite. Very enjoyable is a visit to some of the historic chateaux and gardens in the vicinity, such as Toulaville, Vauville, Urville-Nacqueville, Crosville, and Martinvast. The great Bayeux tapestry exhibition is only 45 minutes away, which also has a wealth of medieval architecture to discover. For those who enjoy a round of golf, there is Cherbourg's picturesque course or the more demanding golf course at Glacerie.
