General & History
Four centuries ago, this castle was built as a hunting lodge for the chancellor of the French King, and it has the majestic spreading confidence of a building designed by a man who is the proud owner of the wealth of wooded and waterside hectares he surveys. In construction unmistakeably French, severely symmetrical, with a long low enfilade of windows connecting two corner towers, sharply roofed in slate. Beyond is a vast vista of forest, presumably teeming with wild boar, deer, and all the other warm-blooded ingredients of a baronial feast.
