General & History
Situated in one of France’s great national parks Chateau Sirvan is an elegantly civilised XVth century castle restored with exemplary good taste, with the steeply raked slate roofs familiar from fairy stories and a tower that might have suited Rapunzel. It has a fabulous formal garden, mainly in the classic formal French style with plenty of clipped box, but also with other areas awash with romance. There are rills, fountains, statuary and a glorious surfeit of roses – with tunnels, cascades, and fragrant floriferous arches all laden with them. This is a garden to be reckoned with – it even has a potager and an orangerie. To arrive at the castle, you pass beneath an ancient stone arch, twelve metres high, a listed National Monument, still bearing the remnants of the heraldic shield belonging to the original noble family.
Chateau Sirvan makes a breathtaking setting for whatever gathering – be it business or pleasure: Family gatherings, holidays, weddings in the Gothic chapel, courses or conferences.
The entire property has been tactfully modernised to retain its original splendour, but with the welcome additions of central heating and modern bathrooms. Easy to find, in the area known as ‘the Garden of France’ between the great rivers Loire and Vienne, the region is a byword for good food, and above all, fine wine.
