Interior & Grounds
Each of the 15 grand luxe suites has been thoughtfully decorated with antiques authentic to the period, sourced throughout France and beyond, each piece contributing to a sense of grandeur and harmony. The spacious bedrooms invite peaceful rest, with their handcarved wooden four poster and half tester beds, ancient faded tapestries adorning the walls and polished oak parquet flooring beneath rich turkey carpets. The linenfold panelling, opulent hand-worked hangings and drapery with handmade silken tassels make the rooms like luxurious cocoons, the whole illuminated by chandeliers hanging from the heavily beamed ceilings.
The bedding itself is unsurpassable, from the 280+ thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets and the luxury mattresses, to the feather-light goose down duvets and pillows. The private en suite bathrooms share an equally high standard of comfort, elegance and character.
The public rooms are as magnificent as you would expect.
The high beamed and vaulted ceiling of the Entrée de Chevalier could easily accommodate a king’s retinue on horseback – and in our less maverick days can seat over one hundred guests. A memorable setting for a spectacular banquet or reception which can be catered for by the professional team on site, featuring the exceptional gastronomic delights of the region, and the excellent wines from the Loire, including a selection of Grand Cru and vintages from Bordeaux and Bourgogne, hand-picked by you from the medieval wine cellar. In winter the vast carved stone fireplace comes into its own, in summer guests can relax on the terrace that overlooks the moat and the courtyard.
The dining room can seat 60 people on pretty tapestry chairs at circular candlelit tables. Again, there is a magnificent fireplace and fine plasterwork.
In addition there are two other grand salons which can easily accommodate 40 people. They both have vast 15th century fireplaces, lofty hand-painted ceilings, polished oak parquet flooring, and leaded windows.
The Chateau caters for both business and pleasure, with the conference facilities and internet access that the former demands, to the satellite TV in every room, the heated swimming pool, volleyball, clay tennis court or Bocce court required by the latter.
