"The Loire seems to breed chateaux. This example has been painstakingly perfected by [the owner] with fabrics, colours and prodigious Louis XV, XVI and Empire furniture and other period antiques. "We started two years ago and finished a few months ago" he says. "I wanted to bring back the blush of the 18th century". Each of the 12 bedrooms is dedicated to a French celebrity, and ... you feel that they have just left the room. The public rooms include a library, music room and chapel. If you start suffering from chateau fatigue, remember that you are in the Touraine wine area, and Vouvray is the local tipple." The Independent on Sunday
In the heart of France, in the region of the Val de Loire so often celebrated by poets, the Château Marnac near Loches, stands with its two towers, dating from the 15th century. Extended at the beginning of the 18th, it became the Marquis de La Fayette's property. Its façades will be rearranged during the following century. It has recently been entirely renovated; you will find there the echoes of the 18th, renowned for its refinement, its carefreeness. Inside the castle, along the alleys, near the chapel, one walks side by side with the memory of the famous figures who lived there. As in the drawing rooms, the library or the music room, the bedrooms offer all the comfort of a luxury hotel, while respecting thoroughly the “spirit of the place.
Esprit de France
You will undoubtedly fall under the spell of this 18th century château, which once belonged to the Marquis de Lafayette. Eschewing the formal approach, [the owner] goes for the more personalised welcome of the B&B. He has given priority to the living areas, a bar in warm dark tones, a library (which gives pride of place to the owner's Egyptian collection) and a music room. The magnificent decor of the bedrooms combines period furniture, American style bedding and huge bathrooms.
