General & History
Part of a fascinating complex of buildings standing among mature gardens, this relaxed self-catering venue with enclosed courtyards was once the home of a wine maker. It was built early in the 19th century to replace the original building, which was destroyed in a particularly bloody episode of the French Revolution, and makes an ideal starting point for an exploration of the delights of the Loire Valley.
The Chateau is well placed for forays into the exceptionally beautiful towns and villages of the area – just 3 km away is a small market town complete with a good restaurant/bar and a bakery. But the real allure of the region is its wines, and the Chateau is perfectly placed to visit the local vignerons and sample their wares.
Chateau du Vignoble has a magnificent 12m x 6m swimming pool beautifully lit at night, safely set within its own walled garden, and fully equipped with sun terrace and paddling pool. Children are well looked after here, from the youngest for whom there are plentiful toys, games, and bicycles, to the more adventuresome who can retire to the games room to play pool, and table tennis, or amuse themselves with boules and badminton.
Outside there is a private, paved enclosed terrace with all the facilities for outdoor living – garden furniture, tables and chairs and a barbecue. And of course there are the practical necessities that make for a relaxed family visit – such as washing machine, cots and high chairs for small children, and acres of safe orchard and meadow for them to run about in. There are also rather more contemplative corners of the garden, where you can sit in peace in a cloud of lavender flowers.
The owner is only too happy to arrange cycle tours, wine tastings or even spit-roasted suckling pig, should you wish.
