The Château is located 367 km (229 miles) west of Paris along the Loire River, in the Western Loire Region of France. It can easily be accessed by car (3.5 hour drive from Paris), high-speed TGV train to Nantes station (2 hours from Paris), or regional flights to Nantes.

The surrounding area has a wealth to offer visitors. The port city of Nantes has a marvelous medieval quarter in the heart of the city, which is dominated by the Cathedral of Saint Pierre. For the shopping enthusiast, the Passage de Pommeray offers a majestic indoor mall while the rue de Crebillon boasts a number of boutique shops and chic stores.

In Angers, the unique medieval fortress sits above the town and watches over its peaceful streets and ancient half-timbered houses. Nearby, the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud is a monastery dating back to the 11th century, which is also the resting place of Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine and Richard the Lion-heart. The spectacular town of Saumur has a medieval château that sits on the banks of the Loire River. Saumur is also home to a number of troglodyte dwellings, which are today used as wine cellars, restaurants, or mushroom farms. The ancient vineyards in this region produce some of France’s most unique wines, such as Muscadet, a dry white wine that is a great accompaniment to seafood, or the fruity reds and rosés from the Saumur region.

The well-known Loire River is a sight to see on its own.
