General & History
This cloistered medieval castle is an unforgettably romantic venue for a family gathering or a house party of up to 15 guests. Enjoying the best of all worlds, the chateau is hidden away in its own expanse of parkland, within walking distance of the French Atlantic coast (grandly known as the Bauloise Riviera and beloved of the most august of 19th century French writers), with its fascinating variety of amusements and pleasures, from glorious blonde beaches and quaint museums to the culinary treats of oysters and other locally caught seafood, whose freshness is brought out with a sprinkling of that other local product known as ‘the white gold of the gourmet’. Sea salt in plain parlance.
Eat out in one of the many brasseries that line the coast, or shop in the local markets and bring your booty home to your own personal Chateau du Sejour to eat in The Grand Dining Hall. For the duration of your stay, half this castle – which succeeds in combining grandeur with a casual relaxed ambience - is your home, and you are free to sense the weight of history in the vaulted and columned cloister and the high beamed gallery, practice your culinary arts in a kitchen that has seen a thousand years of haute cuisine, and wander out to work off those calories in the park.
