General & History
The chateau is of red brick, with its central section edged by white stone, and has a steeply pitched roof. This former hotel on the banks of the Dordogne River was a favourite hideaway for a famous Jazz Age chanteuse and exotic dancer, who was the toast of Paris in her heyday and remained an icon of joyous sexiness for the French. Because the building started life as a hotel, you will find the layout of bathrooms and amenities to be particularly convenient.
The chateau is surrounded by seven acres of bird-filled gardens and woodlands that offer complete privacy in which guests may relax and enjoy country life, including the pleasures of fishing on the river. It also has a pool (which is fenced) and provides shaded gazebos, hammocks and a barbeque area and alfresco dining facilities. It is near the vineyards of Cahors and, as in all wine producing area’s, this means there is a large selection of first-class restaurants within easy driving (or even walking) distance. For those with children a water park - with 4 life-guarded pools, a go-cart track and other diversions - is nearby.
