Hidden from view by a kilometre long drive through oak wood, Chateau Merlin is a beautiful small chateau with a round tower only 2 miles from the historic medieval town of Monpazier. The chateau originates from the 14th C although most of the current building was built by the in the 17th C.
There are many medieval features inside the chateau, such as the original wide stone staircase flanked by walls of large limestone blocks, guests will be pleased to know however that it also comes with all the comforts of modern living. The current owner oversaw the complete restoration of the property in a sympathetic manner from 2003 to 2008, including the installation of beautiful stone and wooden floors, a lift, new electrics and plumbing, restoration of the monumental beamed ceilings, window frames and fireplaces.
After spending the day by the large new heated salt water filtration pool, guests can spend the evening in the tower, either in the magnificent bar underneath the timber frames of the turret on the top floor or in the library on the floor below which feature hand crafted walnut bar units and library cabinets respectively.
This chateau makes a superb location for a family holiday or group of friends looking for a luxurious yet practical home away from home with excellent facilities.
