General & History
The magnificent Chateau de Douceville, built around 1850 and situated in the scenic heart of Perigord Vert, has been recently restored to the highest degree of luxury. The bedrooms have been decorated with fabrics and wallpapers of the finest quality in traditional colour schemes, and furnished with appropriate antiques and carefully chosen works of art, and the bathrooms are equipped with fixtures of the highest quality.
The chateau has twelve bedrooms, five with ensuite bathrooms. The immaculate gardens cover twelve acres and contain a swimming pool, badminton court and fruit orchards. A tennis court will be available in January 2010. You can either take your meals on the terrace or eat by candlelight in the sumptuously appointed dining room.
The gite has four double bedrooms and is as luxurious as the chateau. Should you book the chateau alone, the gite will not be rented to anyone else.
The chateau was originally a gift to the Governor General of Algeria in appreciation of his services to France. He served under Napoleon and plotted the victory over Algeria in the eighteen thirties. His fame is evident from the number of landmarks and statues dedicated to him all over France.
