Things to do whilst staying at your luxury chateau in the Dordogne:
There is no coastline for traditional beach holidays so why not spend a day at one of the sandy river beaches? The rivers are great for swimming and can also be used for a range of water sports.
The countryside is dramatic with numerous quaint towns & villages dotted throughout the region as well as countless chateaux, caves, view points & museums.
Take in the markets that overflow with local produce such as foie gras, truffles, walnuts, duck & goose.
Bergerac is a delightful city that lies on the riverbank of the Dordogne. The old town is lovely to wander through with its medieval houses & fountains on the street corners.
Sarlat should be explored via the cool and shady lanes & courtyards to the rear of the cathedral. The central square hosts a fantastic Saturday market for flowers, goie gras, truffles & other local produce.
The prehistoric painted caves of Les Eyzies and Lascaux are very popular as a day trip.
Canoeing in the Dordogne river is possible and is well suited to beginners who just want to cruise downstream for half a day soaking up the atmosphere.
