The nearest village is Sainte-Anne-sur-Vilaine, where you will find all necessary shops, such as a bakery and grocery store, bistros and a creperie.  A larger town is in the opposite direction, also only two km away, which has a splendid Roman murals recently uncovered. Guipry Messac is ten minutes away, with a large supermarket, restaurants, moorings and boat hire.

Other local towns have some fabulous Michelin restaurants, including Le Grand Fougeray, which is only a short walk from the house, set in grounds with a medieval tower and views over the lake. La Gacilly is a pretty town fifteen minutes away, the home of Yves Rocher and his cosmetics empire. Where you can have a tour of the factory and his botanic gardens.

The River Vilaine, which runs by the estate, is an idyllic setting for a picnic, riverbank wander, and fishing and boat hire are also an option. Swimming is available on the numerous lakes in the area, and stables nearby offer horse riding. La Bretasche at Missillac has a superb golf course set around a castle and moat, and is 45 minutes away.  The seaside town of La Roche Bernard on the mouth of the River Vilaine is about 45 minutes away, a very pretty town with winding streets, tucked into a hill.

There are some great restaurants here with idyllic views over the coast.  The Manoir is situated about 45 minutes from the gold coast of Morbihan, and the cathedral city of Rennes is about 30 minutes away. Rennes is a beautiful university town, with great medieval architecture and pretty cobbled streets, swanky boutiques and great restaurants.
