Interior & Grounds
This beautiful medieval manoir is arranged over two wings and an ancient watchtower, which surround a walled and gated courtyard. The spacious and beautifully presented salon is the heart of the house, with huge oak beams and stone fireplace, dressed in sumptuous soft furnishings, with comfortable sofas and stunning views over the rose gardens. French windows lead onto the terrace overlooking the formal lawns and lake, providing a great spot to enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail. The formal dining room has been carefully restored to its original 15th century glory, with exposed walls of stone, beams and fire surround, as well as antique oak furnishings, providing seating for a full house. There is also access to the main tower, which has a great cocktail bar, providing an elegant location for after-dinner socializing. Through the arched entrance is the old coach-house, which has been fully modernised to provide a fantastic conference room, fully equipped with all the necessary communications set-up, and there is also a library.
There are seven bedrooms in the main house, all furnished in antiques, dressed in sumptuous fabrics and bed linens, with fabulous views and all with en suite bathrooms.
The Northeast Wing
Ground floor
The main entrance hall leads into the Northeast wing, where you will find the main salon, with its beautiful antique furnishings and views of the gardens. The main kitchen is well equipped with two electric ovens, gas hob, fridge-freezer, microwave and dishwasher, to provide catering for the house. There is also a utility room with washing machine and tumble drier, and there is a WC on this floor.
The Upper Floor
There are three bedrooms on the upper floor: The Garden Bedroom is a double bedroom, and has delightful French antiques, beautiful hand painted wallpaper and stunning views over the rose gardens, and an en suite shower room. The Blue Bedroom is a small double bedroom, it is dressed in luxury soft furnishings with an antique Breton bed, and has really lovely views over the Mediterranean gardens, with an en suite shower room. The Church Bedroom is a double bedroom is up a small staircase and has an en suite shower room and loo. The room features one of the finest Norman A frames as part of the ceiling structure, and has glorious views over the gardens and surrounding countryside.
The Gatehouse
A self-contained apartment, with a separate entrance by the main gates, which comprises the dining room, living room and library with satellite television, DVD, telephone and internet access. On the upper floor are the three bedrooms: The Gold Bedroom has a gorgeous mahogany bed and antique furnishings, there is also a day bed which would be perfect for a child, and there is an en suite bathroom with shower and loo. The Rose Bedroom is a double bedroom, with beautiful antique furnishings, and an en suite shower room. The third bedroom is the Monk’s Suite; it has a private salon in the tower, with stunning views over the gardens and lake. There are two single beds, and the en suite bathroom has a shower and loo. There is also a large bathroom within the Gatehouse.
The Guardian House
A charming self-contained cottage within the gardens. It is annexed to the Southeast wing near the main terrace, and with its own front door and rear entrances.
The Watchtower
This beautiful three-room apartment has slate flooring throughout the lower floor, and fantastic views of the surrounding countryside, and all routes to the house. With an enchanting atmosphere, the Watchtower has a sumptuous double bedroom and the luxurious en suite bathroom with a luxurious slipper bath, which is housed in what was formerly the old stable. The Watchtower has been licensed for religious services, and it would be a wonderful place to hold an intimate wedding, with the estate providing an idyllic location for revelries and fabulous backdrops for photographs to commemorate the big day.
The Big Old Barn
What was formerly the old barn has been magically transformed into a luxury Romanesque heated spa pool, a fabulous place to unwind and relax into your holiday, within these idyllic surrounds. The pool can fit twelve bathers and the beautiful tiled spa is quite unique. There is also an art Gallery housed here, with creations by celebrated local and international artists. The Old Barn also had great reception facilities for up to 40 guests.
The Gardens
The beautifully landscaped gardens were laid out over twenty years ago, transforming the rambling lawns, Poplar woods and old vegetable garden into a truly magical place of discovery and beauty. The garden was inspired by the English country garden, but with a Mediterranean influence, which exploits the warm air and glorious sunshine and blends harmoniously with the surrounding Breton countryside. Paths lead you through the gardens which feature gently flowing streams, a Clematis walk, classic English gardens with herbaceous borders, Mediterranean and aromatic gardens, a tranquil lake with Asian island, a wildflower meadow and woodland. There is also an Italian terrace overlooking the gardens, with garden furniture and fabulous views. The gardens are gated and fenced near to the roads, and the gardens are open to visitors at the weekend. Activities include: Boules on the terrace, croquet on the lawn, badminton, and also fishing and boating on the lake. There are also opportunities for clay pigeon shooting and barbeque equipment is available upon request.
