Only three miles away is the bastide town of Castillones, which has its regular market day every Tuesday, selling all the usual fresh local produce, with a butchers, bakers, shops and cafes. The narrow medieval streets, church and historical features are worth taking time to discover. Mid-August, acrobatic high-wire acts perform above the main square, breathtaking and awe-inspiring entertainments.

The area is rich in history and medieval architecture.  There are many castles and medieval towns within reach, such as Sarlat, Montpazier and Monflanquin. The famous cave paintings and caveman dwellings of Les Eyzies are worth a visit, as of course are the surrounding vineyards of Monbazillac, St. Emilion and Cahors.

The surrounding lakes with sandy beaches are ideal for swimming and water sports.  For those who enjoy a putt, there are the golf courses of Castelnaud and Chateau Devigier locally.  Horse riding, tennis and canoeing are also available on the Dordogne.
