General & History
Seymour House is the ancestral home of an important English aristocratic family of the region whose forebears include Jane Seymour, third wife of the Tudor monarch Henry VIII. The first Knight to hold the property was awarded it in the mid 16th century in recognition of his military and diplomatic service to the crown and due to his status as the King's brother-in-law. The land was not built upon until the 17th century however, when another ancestor to the existing owners, a speaker in Seymour House of Commons, decided it was a more convenient location than his castle in Devon. Once Seymour House in Wiltshire was completed, the family divided their time between the two estates.
The original 17th century house was remodelled and substantially reduced in size in the early 18th century and has been a comfortable and welcoming family home ever since. Guests will find the interior rich in interesting family memorabilia collected over the past five centuries.
The house makes an ideal exclusive use venue for weddings, private parties, and corporate gatherings. It can be used for shoots and other special events, or simply as a get-away retreat for families or groups of friends. It lends itself well to use as a residential training centre. It is accessible to the historic towns of Bath and Salisbury and the bustling city of Bristol. Beautiful coastline can be reached within an hour, so it offers much as a holiday venue. Because of its classic features it has been sought after as a film location and backdrop for photographic shoots. It is great for musical events due to excellent acoustics.
