General & History
Polden Park is a lovely period house in extensive and well-maintained grounds, set in rural Somerset. The property has remained in the same family for generations and the paintings, antiques, photographs, and collection of five thousand books tell of an illustrious past, yet there is an informal atmosphere that puts visitors at ease. Despite facilities and furnishings that have been classified as five star by trusted travel sites, Polden Park is still run as a much loved home where owners and staff alike take pride in giving guests every possible attention. The house and grounds are available for rental on an exclusive use basis sleeping parties of up to fourteen.
The house has been occupied by a long line of explorers and adventurers, sailors, philanthropists and politicians. One of the ancestors of the present owners founded a celebrated London gentleman's club, and was a promoter of a significant 19th century Reform Bill. Another forebear set up a prominent children's charity. Today the hosts are keen to share their beautiful home, and all revenues are ploughed back into the estate so that it may be enjoyed by future as well as present generations.
