Interior & Grounds
Castle Pearson has a total of 14 bedrooms and suites, each offering an abundance of plumped pillows and Egyptian cotton sheets, as well as thoughtful personal touches (like the decanter of sherry in every room). The castle is consciously run to be as “unstuffy” as possible, and as such, is a great getaway for adults and children alike.
At Castle Pearson, food is at the heart of most things and the Dining Room is a focal point. Breakfast is a leisurely affair and rarely gets going much before 9; informal two-course suppers are offered during the week and at weekends house-party style four course dinners are served. All meals at the castle are prepared from the finest ingredients, sourced from the northern counties of England or made or grown on the premises. The Music Room, which provides a cosy haven in winter with its roaring fires, is an equally cool spot to chill-out in summer.
As you would expect in any family home, each bedroom has been individually styled and include (in the First Floor King room), a cast iron fireplace and Lloyd Loom bed, William Morris patterns, watercolours and botanical prints. From this room, take the wooden steps which lead down to the castle’s largest, panelled, four poster bathroom. This room can be set up as a family room and can sleep up to two children.
A further first floor king room with antique bed, which is decorated in blue & gold boasts a leaded bay window extending the entire width of the room. The en suite bathroom has polished oak floor, blue and white tiling and an original nineteenth century corner basin. This can be set up as a family room and can sleep one child. The first floor king room with mahogany sleigh bed features a window framed in painted eighteenth century oak panelling, and a turretted dressing room. An arched window forms the doorway down to the spacious bathroom with polished oak floor.
A further bedroom on this floor features an antique double, four poster bed, and Gothic arched leaded windows, oak panelling, turn-of-the-century fireplace and elegant Edwardian bed. The stylishly finished, blue & white bathroom has a marble washstand and Victorian claw footed bath. The other bedrooms include:
One double room with a mahogany, super king-sized, sleigh bed, decorated in green & gold with a floor-to-ceiling arched Gothic window and a bathroom with original fireplace and large double ended bath (which is big enough for two).
Another double room with a red & gold, canopied, king-size, four poster (set in the middle of the room) with a huge oak fireplace, two turrets and arched leaded windows. Steps lead down to the dark green bathroom with cast iron, claw footed bath and stained glass windows. This room can be set up as a family room accommodating up to three children.
A further, ground floor king or twin room, which is part of the old Orangery and boasts two over-sized, arched Gothic windows which give on to the garden. Again this room has a turretted dressing room.
In the North Wing, there is an additional well-proportioned ensuite room with a king-sized, antique brass bed, which can be inter-connected with the adjacent room, making it perfect for families.
The Castle Annexe, which was converted from the old gatehouses and stable block, can sleep up to 4 adults and 2 additional children. On the ground floor of this annexe, you’ll find a king-sized, four poster bedded room and a single room with day bed and bathroom. On the first floor, there are twin, antique brass beds and bathroom. Wonderfully secluded, with arched windows looking West towards a neighbouring castle, these private rooms have the additional benefits of their own garden, front door and turrets.
