General & History
The castle was commissioned in the mid-nineteenth century by a gentleman of leisure described as being of “considerable means”. He envisaged a retreat in which he could entertain his guests in a style recalling a medieval banquet. Today the castle owners run a less formal house and the it feels like a real family home. Ideal for a quiet retreat or a large house party, it can be yours exclusively. The castle has ranked as one of the country's top romantic destinations and is licensed for civil marriage and partnership ceremonies. The dining room can accommodate up to forty-five, and there is no set formula for events, each day spent within its walls can be as unique as the castle itself.
