There are two golf courses within easy reach, with an 18-hole course very close to the property. For those with a head for heights, ballooning and gliding can be organised, and the Cotswolds Water Park provides watersports such as sailing and windsurfing within close range. Those interested in motor sports can try rally driving, car racing and 4x4 driving. Traditional punting along the river in Oxford can be arranged. The staff at The River House are always pleased to advise guests of local activities and provide tourist information and maps.
Beauty treatments and pampering sessions including massage and CACI (non-surgical facelift) treatments are available on site, and there is a stunning spa with gym and heated indoor swimming pool on the grounds for the exclusive use of holiday house and cottage guests. There is a hard tennis court on the premises, rackets and balls can be hired for the sports minded.
Children of all ages are well catered for at The River House. There are toys at the property including a lovely dolls house, there is a communal play area on the grounds with a Wendy house that younger children love and an equally popular heated play cabin with dressing up box, both shared with the other holiday houses on the estate. There is even a child sized croquet set and cricket set, and child sized tennis rackets. There are many local attractions for day trips such as the Cotswolds Wildlife Park, Birdland, the Model Village at Bourton-on-the-Water, Cotswolds Farm Park, The Toy Collectors Museum, and the Dragonfly Maze, to name but a few. Teenagers will enjoy the communal games room on the grounds and its video library, table football and ping pong. There is of course the heated swimming pool but under sixteens must be accompanied by an adult when using it. The management are very safety conscious and there is a coded entry pad to the gym and swimming pool to prevent small children wandering in on their own.
Staff are on hand to manage the property and to answer any questions prior to or during your stay. The team of ladies in charge of housekeeping keep the property gleaming before and after you leave. There is a resident chef on the estate who will provide frozen meals prepared to a high standard for your convenience – you may obtain sample menus and a price list prior to your arrival. The chef can also be booked for dinner parties and entertaining. A welcome hamper will greet you when you arrive providing the basics and more, including a bottle of champagne. Any items that you have ordered in advance at the time of making your booking will be included in the welcome basket. Aromotherapy Associates toiletries and soap, lavatory paper and cleaning products are also provided.
You may be tucked away in a quiet Cotswold corner, but you can stay in touch with the outside world if you so wish using the direct dial telephones with automatic billing and broadband Internet at the house. As well as a widescreen television there is a stereo system with CDs for your use. There are hairdryers in the bedrooms and the showers are all power showers. The hosts try to think of everything so that guests do not even have to ask. Anything from hypoallergenic pillows to extra blankets to a picnic basket and cool box are provided on request. There are lawns suitable for croquet on the premises and a croquet set is available.
