One guest recently exclaimed "I think I have died and gone to heaven!"
The Chateau de Linde dates back to 1269 as the residency of the Senechal of the bastide, with a prison below. In the living room and down in the extensive cellars, the original natural stone walls can still be seen. Looking from the other side of the Dordogne across to the chateau, standing with its feet in the water, the turrets and spiral stairs tower gives the impression of a castle stepping straight out of a fairy tale. This must have been the most beautiful regional administration building!
In the late 18th century it was enlarged to its present size and in the 1900's it became a private home. Then from 1973 to 2005, the chateau was a family run hotel and highly acclaimed restaurant. The six bedrooms are all named after the bastide towns in the area. There is a staircase carved underneath the chateau down to the river, where natural spring water flows into the river.
The owner Wilna lives on site to provide breakfast each day and to make sure that you're well looked after.
