General & History
The charming 16th Century Chateau de Pomireau is located in the perfect countryside of the Gers. The chateau was once a prominent hunting lodge and until recently the country residence of the Marquis & Marquise de Noe.
The chateau enjoys 10 acres of mature gardens which are surrounded by a further 200 acres of vines, woods & fields.
The vines produce Armagnac for the Chateau de Pomireau appellation as well as “Floc”, the local aperitif.
Chateau de Pomireau is more a country home than a stately mansion and has 5 spacious guest bedrooms in the main house and 3 bedrooms in the Petite Maison. All have en suite or private facilities.
There is a small gymnasium and games room in the grounds as well as the wonderful swimming pool. Each day the kitchen garden provides fresh vegetables for the guest’s meals and the chateau’s beehives produce an abundance of honey.
Called Gascony before the French revolution, the Gers is historically the land of the Musketeers and the birth place of D’Artagnan. Today the region is famous for gastronomy with, Foie Gras, Confit de Canard and of course the fine brandy, Armagnac.
Of the many bastide villages local to the chateau, the pretty village of Montreal is the nearest. The Armagnac and wine vineyards in the area welcome visitors to taste their produce or alternatively the exceptional weekly market in the nearby town of Eauze, the capital of Armagnac, is an opportunity to experience all of the regions produce. Other activities include Golf, horse riding and fishing. The chateau provides bikes for guests wishing to explore the local area.
