Entering the Chateau de Cougoureux courtyard is to enter another world. Somehow the breeze is different, the light is different, the sounds are different the perfume is different, you enter a world of changed sensibility. The Chateau de Cougoureux is a wonderful Renaissance Château complex set in the Lauragais of Pastel fame – the “Pays de Cocaigne”, Cathar country and the land of the Troubadours.
The Bâtiment welcomes up to 6 guests in its 2 large bedrooms, and is an integral part of the Chateau de Cougoureux estate. The Bâtiment makes up the western wall of the enclosed courtyard, and looks across to the extraordinary southern façade of the château building with its multiple “personages” looking back onto it, and you.
From the Chateau de Cougoureux you can explore the Cathar sites, visit Albi’s imposing red brick Cathederal de St Cecile and the Palace de Berbie which houses the Toulouse Lautrec Museum. The Canal de Midi is nearby, and Carcassonne’s wonderful medieval battlements are under an hour away. The renowned Revel Market is our source for remarkable local produce. Local regional wine areas include Gaillac, the Corbiers, Cahors, the Minervois, Fitou, Limoux, Jurançon, St Mont, St Chinian to name a few. Experience the famous cassoulet, foie gras, magret de canard, some of the best chickens you’ve ever tasted, sublime asparagus in season, local cheeses, and the Cougoureux tomatoes!
