General & History
The Château is a landmark building nested in the Garonne river valley, at the footstep of the Pyrénées mountains. We are located 45 minutes away from downtown Toulouse and the Blagnac industrial complex via the A64 highway (direction Tarbes).
Built in the 1520’s, the property has been fully renovated from 1998 to 2002 and offers modern, luxurious facilities in an untouched historical environment. The Château is situated at the outskirts of the small village of St Martin and surrounded by 40 hectares of tree plantations, ensuring calm and relaxation for all.
The Château is always rented out as a whole and services are tailored to the visitors’ needs, which enables us to be a perfect destination for all types of guests regardless of the purpose of their stay (e.g. vacations, business meetings, weddings, photo shoots, etc.)
The construction of the Château dates back to the beginning of the XVIth century when the Monpezat family, Lords of St Martin, decided to abandon their medieval fortress, which stood on a cliff overlooking the entire Garonne valley, and settle near the riverbed. The Château’s architecture is a perfect example of early French Renaissance and offers many similarities with the chateaux of the Loire valley, although it preceded many of them. Several years after the French revolution, a nobleman from Northern France - the Prince of Berghes - acquired the property and undertook a full renovation.
The architect in charge of the works was Victor Ruprich Robert, a fellow of Viollet Le Duc, the first architect in France who undertook the renovation of medieval and renaissance buildings, and whose major - although sometimes criticized - accomplishments include the renovation of the Carcassone fortress and Toulouse's St Sernin church. The Château’s interior was transformed significantly during the renovation, in particular through the addition of wooden paneling, which represented a “modern view” of “gothic style” in those days. Subsequently, the Château changed hands numerous times until it was acquired by the family of the current owner in the early 1990’s and fully renovated starting in 1998.
