The Pyrenees region offers a mix of imposing mountains, lush and peaceful countryside and friendly cities on the doorstep of Spain.

The coast of the Pyrenees is as popular and chic as the beach resorts found on the Cote d’Azur. The Pyrenees has an abundance of popular towns principally along the Cote Basque. Biarritz for example is stylish and is often referred to as the Monte Carlo of the Atlantic coast. Bayonne too is pretty and has a wonderful and historic old town, as does St-Jean-de-Luz which is as attractive but quieter. Anglet also has a fine beach and attracts surfers from all over France.

The Pyrenees are culturally and physically diverse, with Basque’s, Gascon’s and French all living in the region, and beaches to mountain ranges.

One can experience attention-grabbing sports in the Basque Pyrenees. Most popular is Pelota, a sometimes lethally rapid variety of racquetball played in a walled court, enjoyed at Bayonne or St-Jean-de-Luz. And in and around the Camargue, the favourite sport is bull fighting. The major corridas in France (events) take place at Easter.

The weather is good all year round is consistently good, the Pyrenees affords easy access to and from Spain, and the beaches are in good nick. The Pyrenees is an ideal location to enjoy a chateau holiday in France.
