Discover the hidden wonders of Burgundy whilst based at your exclusive château overlooking the ducal city of Nevers. Ideally located in the Loire valley between the Pouilly and Sancerre vineyards, and next to the Magny Cours race circuit, the XIX Century renaissance chateau is only five miles from the heritage site of Nevers city, and offers an exclusive 5-hectare estate for a relaxing or exciting stay. The seven refined bedrooms and salons are all yours, allowing you see life as a lord or lady of the manor, in a completely restored decor.
Come and explore the grounds to discover the ornamental lake, vegetable garden, chapel, swimming pool, pony enclosure, and children's play area and get back to nature amid the century-old trees. The suggested activities in the local area will allow you to take full advantage of your stay with suggestions for weekends, and visits around the vineyards, culinary pleasures, golf and more.
The activities nearby the castle will give you a good insight into the treasures of the surrounding region: flying over castles and remarkable conservation areas - from "Charité sur Loire", a clunisian monastic city referenced by world heritage, up to the wild lake area of Morvan to discover the "Pouilly sur Loire" and "Sancerre" vineyards - and countless other possibilities for the experience of a lifetime.
Extended in 1840 by the Baron Denis Durosier de Magneux de Verpré, the château is an elegant French property of 1000 sqm set in a 5-hectare estate. The Baron de Verpré, an eccentric character and renowned womanizer, had the five towers added to lock up his numerous lady friends when receiving new companions. Its subsequent owners, the Vyau de Vaudreuil family of Fontenay, who were great lovers of hunting, bred dogs on the adjoining farm for hunting wild boar and roe-deer.
Although it maintains its XIXth century appearance, the German occupation and post-war conversion into a school and outdoor centre affected the interior decoration. All of the main architectural elements remain, however, highlighting this exceptional and timeless residence: intricate woodwork, parquet floor in 'point de Hongrie' style, free stone, spiral staircases, murals, and all of its incongruous spaces including, notably, the towers which add to the character and romanticism of the château.
